Patti Askwith Kenner

2023 Manhattan Jewish Hall of Fame Inductee

Biography

Patti Askwith Kenner was born in New York City and grew up in Harrison, New York. She graduated with a degree in French from Carnegie Mellon University and received her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Columbia University Teachers College. Following 10 years of teaching in Harlem, she joined her father at Campus Coach Lines, the bus company he founded as a student at the University of Michigan and which he ran until he recently passed away – at 104!  Patti is now President of Campus Coach. 

 Patti  serves on several  boards including the Museum of Jewish Heritage—A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, the Defiant Requiem Foundation (which tells the story of conductor Rafael Schachter who taught 100 prisoners to sing the Verdi Requiem in the evenings at the Theresienstadt Concentration camp and performed it 16 times for the camp prisoners and lastly, for their Nazi captors, and currently  performs this story live around the United States and the world with an emmy award nominated documentary) , Hold on to Your Music Foundation (which has taken the story of a young girl from Vienna to London on the kindertransport into a book and a live performance and performed for 1,000,000 children around the world promoting courage and resilience in the face of tragedy),  Carnegie Mellon University, the American Heart Association,  Guild Hall , , and the University Musical Society at the University of Michigan. Patti is a trustee at the Educational Alliance as well as at UJA-Federation of New York where she co-chairs the Community Initiative on Holocaust Survivors.  She was a Trustee of the Nightingale-Bamford School for ten years.

Patti is the Executive Producer of the award-winning documentary AHEAD OF TIME, The Extraordinary Journey of Ruth Gruber, the story of  Patti’s dear friend whose life exemplified rescue, survival, and humanity.  She has been a strong supporter of the life work of Christian rescuer  Irena Sendler and the Jan Karski play and documentary "REMEMBER THIS." . Patti is the Executive Producer of  the documentary "FIDDLER, MIRACLE OF MIRACLES"  and her latest film on Raoul Wallenberg will be out shortly. Patti has one daughter and four grandchildren who live in Aspen, Colorado
