BIOGRAPHY
Cantor Joseph Malovany is a unique individual with a brilliant tenor voice. His deep religious commitment is a foundation for the presentation of authentic Jewish liturgical music throughout the world to Jews and Gentiles alike. Through his musical interpretations, creations and compositions, he has succeeded in advancing the appreciation of faith and spirit and in particular a love of God.
Since his arrival in New York in 1973 as Cantor of the prestigious Fifth Avenue Synagogue, he has tirelessly served and established deep and lasting relationships across the New York, American and World communities.
He is a Distinguished Professor of Liturgical Music at Yeshiva University and a is the only religious Jewish American recipient of Poland’s Knighthood, as a Commander of the Legion of Honor. His global work includes that of Rector of the Institute of Jewish Traditional Liturgical Music in Leipzig and Berlin, Germany and was a former Dean of the JDC Moscow Academy of Cantorial Music. It is no surprise that his advice has been sought by American Presidents and International heads of states from Israel and across the world.
